Liliana Duque Piñeiro
Award Winning Scenic Designer Liliana Duque Piñeiro has designed new productions for opera companies such as Santa Fe Opera, Minnesota Opera, Arizona Opera, Virginia Opera, San Diego Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Chautauqua Opera, West Edge Opera, and San Francisco Opera's Merola program. Career highlights include the world premiere of Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer's If I were You; Sweet Potato Kicks the Sun for Santa Fe Opera, a co-production of Il Postino for Virginia Opera, Opera Southwest, and Chicago Opera Theatre; and the film version of The Copper Queen for Arizona Opera. International credits include productions of Madama Butterfly, Don Pasquale, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Romeo et Juliette for Opera de Colombia in Bogotá; and The Magic Flute, Sweeney Todd, Elixir of Love, Carmen, and Dido for Teatro Nacional Sucre in Quito, Ecuador.
Liliana regularly collaborates with directors such as John De Los Santos, Chía Patiño, Keturah Stickann, Crystal Manich, Sarah Meyers, Omer Ben Seadia, and Michael Mori. Design awards include recognition at the USITT US National Exhibit Prague Quadrennial, Peggy Ezekiels Award in Design and Technical Achievement, Outstanding Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center, and a Fulbright Scholarship. Many of her theater designs have been nominated for awards in the Bay Area. Liliana holds two MFA degrees from the University of Cincinnati: one in Theatre Design and Production and one in Sculpture.
